MCOT launches fully digitised network with Snell & Wilcox IQ Modular Infrastructure
--
MCOT, the leading broadcaster in Thailand, which operates nine local TV channels and two radio networks, has launched an entirely digitised service with Snell & Wilcox IQ Modular products for conversion, processing, distribution and encoding. Following its recent privatization, MCOT has taken a number of steps to gear up for the increasingly competitive broadcast landscape in Thailand. MCOT's new network is built from a fundamentally open base, creating a need for rapid rollout of the entire system. Mr. Somcheep Pongkoon, head of TV Studio and Broadcasting Department MCOT- Channel 9, said, "To meet the requirements of our new operating environment, MCOT had to address key performance criteria, including increasing operational efficiencies, ease of use and maintenance, as well as maintaining flexibility to meet future market developments. We reviewed and studied broadcast implementations around the region, locally as well as in more developed markets like Hong Kong, and we selected Snell & Wilcox's IQ Modular System as it was unique in being able to support every kind of interface on a single product platform." Mr. Mark Parlett, Managing Director, Snell & Wilcox Asia Pacific Limited, said, "Broadcasters often choose Snell & Wilcox for essentially green-field sites when they need to get on the air quickly and with a minimum of internal system configuration. Our IQ Modular range puts everything on one platform, but at the same time it is a modular solution and by definition extremely customizable as the network grows." The IQ Modular range offers a wide choice of modules and enclosures, with customizable control interfaces that are designed to support the broadest array of activities while still maintaining ease of use and control. All essential information about any module - its status, setting, menu structure, configuration details and PC window - is held on the card itself, for instant access by the central control system. This system integration allows users to configure video, audio, digital, analog, SD and HD functions all in the same box that holds 16 modules per 3RU enclosure. RollCall is a PC-based application that enables remote control functionality, monitoring of status and error condition as well as gathering and viewing of error and status information reported from all the equipment present on the RollCall network. In addition to RollCall and RollMap, the key IQ Modular System components being used by MCOT include: - Module IQDMSL - provides multi-standard decoding and frame synchronization of composite video while rugged sync and clock recovery ensures reliable operation with unstable and noisy inputs
- Module IQDMENCS - provides serial 4:2:2 to composite analog encoding to ensure high quality encoding for PAL/NTSC/SECAM broadcast test, monitoring and recording applications<;li>
- Module IQAVDR - provides up to ten equalized analog (composite or component) video outputs while supporting adjustable gain and equalization, and full remote control and status reporting.
