Snell & Wilcox Strengthens Presence in China With Appointment of New Regional Head, Kevin Chen

--

Snell & Wilcox is further strengthening its long-term presence in China with the appointment of industry veteran Kevin Chen to the role of regional head. Chen has more than 20 years of experience working with Chinese broadcasters, and in this position he will be responsible for managing sales and marketing operations plus strategic planning for further business development within the region.

"Kevin's extensive experience includes decades of work with Chinese broadcast clients, and his appointment as regional head in China represents our commitment to providing the highest level of support to new and existing clients in this market," said Snell & Wilcox Sales Director Naresh Subherwal. "His familiarity with the region and understanding of market needs are key in our move to extend and expand sales and service efforts across the country."

Prior to joining Snell & Wilcox, Chen provided consultancy services to Paclight, a California- and Beijing-based systems integration, consulting, research, and development company serving broadcast and communications markets in the United States and China. Before starting his own company, he worked with broadcast vendors such as Thomson Multimedia Solutions, previously Philips (BTS) and Ampex broadcast products, successfully developing business throughout China. He also served as a senior support engineer for Ampex and, at the start of his career, was trained as an engineering manager for Chinese state television broadcaster CCTV in Beijing.

Chen's appointment gives Snell & Wilcox's existing and potential Chinese customers a direct and senior point of contact for the company. Approximately 95 percent of broadcasters in China already use Snell & Wilcox equipment within some part of their facilities, while major broadcasters such as CCTV, Shanghai TV, Qingdao TV, and Beijing TV have worked with Snell & Wilcox extensively to digitize their overall systems, manage HD transitions, or develop digital archives. Snell & Wilcox has operated successfully in China for more than 15 years, and in recent months the company has seen a significant amount of interest in Kahuna, its breakthrough multiformat HD/SD production switcher that has been purchased by Qingdao TV, among others.

Snell & Wilcox, the leader in its field, delivers technologies and products that enable television and satellite broadcasters, post-production facilities, filmmakers, and communications professionals to move content seamlessly between analog, digital, high definition, and file-based systems and to bridge the world's multiplicity of line/field and color standards. The company provides switchers and keyers, standards conversion systems, networked infrastructure components, and products for noise reduction, image enhancement, and restoration. In business since 1973, Snell & Wilcox maintains its U.S. headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif., and European headquarters in Hampshire, U.K. Additional offices are located in New York, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, and Russia.
