BIRTV Grand Award for Video Goes to Snell & Wilcox Kahuna SD/HD Production Switcher
--
Snell & Wilcox today announced that it has received a Grand Award at the Beijing International Radio, TV and Film Equipment Exhibition (BIRTV) for its Kahuna SD/HD production switcher. Of the 382 exhibitors at the August 22-25 exhibition in Beijing, only five received Grand Awards, with Snell & Wilcox winning in the Video category. Basing their decision on a rigorous analysis and comparison of all BIRTV exhibits, the judges who selected the winners are leading Chinese experts in broadcast and film. The BIRTV Grand Award is the latest in a series of honors bestowed on the Snell & Wilcox Kahuna, which won four best-of-show awards at NAB 2005, including Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit, a TV Technology STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award, a Television Broadcast Top Innovation Award, and a Government Video Salute. "Given the intense competition in the Asian broadcasting market, the BIRTV 2005 Grand Award is without question a heavyweight addition to Kahuna's list of independent awards," said Mark Parlett, Managing Director, Snell & Wilcox Asia Pacific. "Recognition at this level further strengthens our commitment to provide cutting-edge and cost effective studio equipment to Chinese broadcasters. As HD broadcasting steadily becomes a reality in China, Snell & Wilcox will continue to support Chinese broadcasters with flexible studio solutions that will ease their transition from SD to HD." Kahuna is the industry's first switcher to offer simultaneous SD and HD operations in the same mainframe with the same control panel. Kahuna users can mix existing SD camera feeds, graphics, handheld shots, and archive footage directly into an HD production with no need to purchase expensive HD upgrades or extra HD up-conversion equipment. Complete details and a demonstration video on Kahuna are available at www.snellwilcox.com.
