Kahuna SD/HD Multiformat Production Switcher Supports Complete Range of Utah Scientific Routing Switchers

HAMPSHIRE, U.K., and SALT LAKE CITY, USA -- Oct. 23, 2007 -- Snell & Wilcox and Utah Scientific today announced that the Snell & Wilcox Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switcher now supports the complete range of Utah Scientific routing switchers, including legacy systems. The tight integration of the two companies' products makes it easy for Utah Scientific clients to select and work with the production switcher that best meets both their day-to-day and future production requirements.

The Snell & Wilcox Kahuna can be deployed along with Utah routing switchers to maximize use of all available crosspoints, as in a studio setting where a large router distributes signals to multiple Kahuna systems in multiple studios. The product pairing also suits mobile productions, giving the Kahuna operator the flexibility to choose from a greater number of sources.

The Kahuna production switcher is the first product to integrate SD and HD inputs on the same control panel and within the same mainframe, effectively making all SD and HD sources interchangeable. Working in multiformat SD/HD mode, Kahuna users can mix existing SD camera feeds, graphics, handheld shots, and archive footage directly into an HD production with no need to purchase expensive HD upgrades or extra HD upconversion equipment. Snell & Wilcox's FormatFusion technology allows those SD sources to be seamlessly integrated into HD productions and vice versa. The easy-to-use yet powerful Kahuna IMPAKT suite of 3-D DVEs provides a broad variety of effects that can be applied in SD, HD, or both formats.
