ETTV Digital News Centre goes Live With Snell & Wilcox Modular Infrastructure

State-of-the-art Digital News Centre Depends on IQ Modular Systems, Control & Monitoring from Snell & Wilcox

--

TAIPEI, February 10, 2004 -- Eastern Television's pioneering digital news centre has gone live supported by an extensive set of Snell & Wilcox intelligent infrastructure products for conversion, processing, distribution and encoding, along with equipment for monitoring the entire system.

The infrastructure, provided to ETTV by Snell & Wilcox partner Comvision, includes a network-wide set of equipment from the IQ Modular range, and is controlled via the Snell & Wilcox RollCall Management network solution and RollMap Schematic Viewer, providing PC-based real-time monitoring of the system from one central point.

ETTV chose the Snell & Wilcox system for its reliability and flexibility in supporting the network's 12 channels. ETTV has been purchasing Snell & Wilcox equipment since 1998.

Mr. George Chou, Vice president of ETTV, said, "The system we have built is the first of its kind among all the TV stations in Taiwan. We are very careful about the supplier we select. Snell & Wilcox have been a long time supplier to our stations, and we have confidence in the quality and reliability of Snell & Wilcox equipment. Plus, the RollCall and RollMap function enable us to monitor the complete system make adjustments to individual modules and equipment as well as identify the system fault at a remote location. This saves us a lot of time on system adjustment and trouble shooting, which is why we chose Snell and Wilcox for this project."

Mr. Mark Parlett, Managing Director, Snell & Wilcox Asia Pacific Limited, said, "With increasing numbers of channels being handled within a single system, it becomes more necessary to have a comprehensive 'glue' that will hold that infrastructure together and give peace of mind to the system manager. When this is achieved in a news room, journalists can be more closely involved in the production process and ultimately the viewer gets to see the news quicker."

The IQ Modular range of modules and enclosures, with a choice of control interfaces, is designed to be the most versatile in operation and the easiest to configure and control. All essential information about any module - its status, setting, menu structure, configuration details and PC window - is held on the card itself, for instant access by your control system. The structure allows a user to configure video, audio, digital, analog, SD and HD functions within the same box, with a packing density of 16 modules per 3RU enclosure.

RollCall is a PC application enabling remote control functionality, monitoring of status and error condition and gathering and viewing of error and status information reported from all equipment present on the RollCall network.
