Call Letter TV Station To Win Snell & Wilcox "Digital Makeover" Prize Worth $100,000 at NAB 2004

--

Santa Clara, CA, - March 31, 2004. One lucky NAB 2004 delegate will be celebrating a $100,000 win in Las Vegas this year, without having to stake a dime. That's the value of a "Digital Makeover" prize being offered by Snell & Wilcox exclusively to call letter TV stations. The prize consists of Snell & Wilcox infrastructure equipment and networked control and monitoring software.

Now through April 18, employees of US call letter television stations are invited to enter the Digital Makeover competition online on behalf of their stations. The winning TV station will be announced at the Snell & Wilcox booth on the final day of the NAB 2004 trade show.

Because eligibility to take part in the competition is limited to US call letter TV station employees, the odds of winning are very attractive. All entrants have to do is:

  • Register online before April 18, 2004 at www.snellwilcox.com/digitalmakeover
  • Stop by the Snell & Wilcox booth (#C6421) at NAB 2004 to confirm this on-line registration in person

"The most successful makeovers start with fundamentals, and nothing is more fundamental for call letter stations today than choosing the right infrastructure technology," said Simon Derry, chief executive officer of Snell & Wilcox. "In awarding this prize to one lucky station, we hope to increase awareness across the industry of the choices available from Snell & Wilcox that can smooth transitions from analog to digital, from SD to HD, and from baseband to file-based operations."

Infrastructure products from Snell & Wilcox are designed to provide legacy compatibility with analog and SD standards as well as future-proof compatibility with HD standards and metadata-rich IT-based infrastructures - creating a single flexible infrastructure system that enables smooth technology transitions.

"The IQ Modular and RollCall control and monitoring systems that we are showcasing with this Digital Makeover competition are designed to provide just such a system," Derry added, "with re-configurable 'bridges' between analog, digital and file-based 'islands' - thus ensuring that a broadcast plant remains future-proof as technology progresses."

$100,000 Grand Prize Details:
The grand prize in Snell & Wilcox's Digital Makeover contest includes any products from the company's IQ Modular, RollCall, RollMap and RollSNMP lines. The winning station's engineering staff may select from nearly 300 unique "self aware" modules, which include dozens of conversion, distribution, routing, video, MPEG processing, monitoring, audio and test generator functions. Some unique image processing modules are one-of-a-kind, embracing well-known, award-winning Snell & Wilcox core technologies in compact, cost-effective configurations.

Each IQ module in the range identifies itself on Snell & Wilcox's highly scalable RollCall network and can be configured and monitored in multiple ways - from "virtual" devices such as simple D/A converters, image processors or routers to vast internal component infrastructures of thousands of modules. Once configured through a PC on the network, each module establishes its relationship with other modules in the system. This relationship between modules is called integrated intelligence, one of the powerful features that distinguish Snell & Wilcox infrastructure products as the most advanced and future-proof in the industry.
